In the subject of “Mahdavi Prayers and Salutations”, we are going to study topics like prayers related to Imam Mahdi (PBUH)

some special prayers for days and months, resorting to Imam Mahdi (PBUH), Ziarahs (a type of salutations) and …We recommend all of you, helper to Imam Mahdi (PBUH), to find the book of Sahifah Mahdiah by Sayyed Murteza Mujtahedi Sistani and use it.

The prayer of Imam Mahdi (PBUH)

Qutb Ravandi writes: “The prayer of Imam Mahdi (PBUH), may our souls be his ransom, has two Rakats. In each Rakat the Surah “AL-FAATEHAH” should be recited and once arriving “Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek” this verse should be repeated 100 times and after finishing the prayer, salute Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his progeny100 times and then ask Allah your need.” (Da’avat Ravandi, p. 89)

This prayer is not exclusive to special time and place and reciting a Surah is not obligatory after the Surah “AL-FAATEHAH” and no specific benediction is recommended after the prayer.

The prayer of the Holy Mosque of Jamkaran

Hasan ibn Muthlah says: “My master, Imam Mahdi (PBUH), told me: “People should be eager for (come to) this place (Jamkaran) and cherish it and offer 4 Rakats of prayer: two Rakats for salutation and honor of the mosque and in each Rakat recite the Surah al-Hamd once and the Surah al-Ikhlas seven times and recite the special dhikr (invocation) of every Rukoo (bowing with the hands on the knees) and Sujud (prostration) seven times.

And after those, two Rakats for Imam Mahdi (PBUH), in each Rakat recite the Surah “al-Hamd”, once reaching “Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek”, repeat it a hundred times, then finish the Surah “al-Hamd” and recite the Surah “al-Ikhlas” after that and recite the special dhikr of every Rukoo and Sujud seven times and offer the second Rakat the same way. When the prayer is completed, say “There is no God but Allah” and recite the Tasbih of Lady Fatimah (PBUH) and prostrate and recite salutation a hundred times.”

“Then he said: “Anyone who offer this prayer is like he has offered it in the Kaaba.””

(Jannah al-Ma’va, p. 231)

The prayer of supplication to Imam Mahdi (PBUH)

Sayyed Ali Khan writes in the book “Al-Kalim At-Tayyeb (The goodly word)”: “This is supplication to Imam Mahdi (PBUH), wherever you are, offer a 2 Rakat prayer, recite the Surah Al-Hamd and any another Surah in each Rakat, then stand under the sky facing Kiblah direction and say the following:”

(The continuation of this text is on the page 243 of Mafatih al-Jinan (Keys to the Heavens).) Then he says: “And pray and ask for whatever you want, it will be settled for you, God willing.”

There are some recommendations about this prayer narrated by the great scholar Mahmood Iraqi from Kafa’mi which an abstract of them is presented as follow: 1. It is better to perform ablution before the prayer and recite the Surah Al-Fath and An-Nasr after reciting the Surah Al-Hamd. 2. Some scholars declined teaching it to unworthy people and it is one of the practices they have tried in great troubles.

Recommendation of Imam Reza (PBUH) for the Qunut of the Jumu'ah (Friday) prayer

The son of Muqatil has narrated that Imam Reza (PBUH) said: “What do you say on the Qunut of the Jumu'ah (Friday) prayer and what do you pray?” I replied: “The same prayer everyone says.” He said: “Do not pray the same way other people do, but say:”

Two short prayers for the Reappearance

Sheikh Bahai recommends the following to be performed after the morning prayer: "While you are holding your beard in your right hand and raising your left palm towards the sky, say the following seven times:

Allamah Majlesi says the following to be done after the morning prayer: “Before saying any word after the prayer, say the following 100 times:”

(1-Miftah al-Falah, p. 206 ; 2-Mekyal al-Makarem, v. 2, p. 13)

Prayer for the Reappearance, after obligatory prayer

It has been quoted from Imam Sadiq (PBUH) in the book of “Jamal al-Salehin”:

“Indeed, of our rights over our Shias is that they put their hands on their chins after every obligatory prayer and say the follow thrice:

Translation: “O God of Muhammad, hasten the Reappearance and relief of the progeny of Muhammad. O God of Muhammad, protect (the religion during) the Occultation of Muhammad. O God of Muhammad, take revenge for the daughter of Muhammad (PBUH).”

(Mekyal al Makarem, v. 2, ch. 7)

The prayer to meet Imam Mahdi (PBUH)

It is narrated that: “Anyone who reads this context of prayer after the daily  prayers, and keep reciting it consistently, as a result his (her) life will be prolonged so much that he will be heavy-hearted from life and due to this prayer he will ultimately meet Imam Mahdi(PBUH).

The context of this prayer is as follows:

(Makar em al-Akhlaq volume, 2. Page, 35; Misbah al-Mujtahid, page, 58)

The drowning prayer during the Occultation era

Great Sayyed Ali ibn Tawoos narrated that Imam Sadiq (PBUH) said: “Soon such a doubt will befall you, then you will be without a leader and a guide and Imam, and you won't be saved unless the one who calls Allah by the “drowning prayer”:

Translation: “O Allah! O Gracious! O Merciful. O One who changes the hearts (of people) Let my heart hold fast onto Your religion.”

Abdullah ibn Sanan also said: “یَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ والاَبصار ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِی عَلَى دِینِکَ” and added the phrase “الاَبصار” (the visions). Then Imam said: “Indeed the Exalted Allah is the One who changes the hearts and visions, but you recite it as I do (and did).”

Sayyed ibn Tawoos says: “Maybe Imam’s word about the “visions” means that the change of the hearts and visions is related to the Day of Resurrection, because the terror and fear will be severe that day. But the fear during the Occultation is caused by the change of the hearts and not the visions.”

(Muhaj ad-Da'waat, p. 396)

The prayer of “The Noor” (The Light)

This prayer is narrated from Imam Mahdi (PBUH) in the book named “Al-Misbah”, written by Kafa’mi.

It`s narrated that anyone who always recites this prayer, will gather with Imam Mahdi (PBUH):

(Al-Misbah, page 407; Montakhab Al-Athar, page 521)

Attainment of reading Bani-Israel Surah (Al-Isra’)

Imam Sadiq (PBUH) says:

“Anyone who reads Bani-Israel Surah (Al-Isra’) every Friday’s night, won't die until he perceives Imam Mahdi (PBUH) and will be one of his companions.”

(Al-Mesbah, p585; Thawab al-A’mal, p107)
