The Imams’ predictions of deviations in Mahdism

Regarding the importance of Mahdism, the infallible Imams knew that there would be some frauds who will have invalid claims. Thus, we have recieved hundreds of bright narrations from them as a valuable heritage; showing that he will come, a man from Prophet’s household, from Fatimah’s generation, from Hussain ibn Ali’s children… as an example:

Qatada ibn Said once asked: “Is Mahdi (PBUH) real?” another answered: “Yes, he is real”. I asked: “What family is he from?” he said: “From Quraysh.” I asked: “From which branch”; he said: “Bani Hashim.” I asked: “From which group”; he said: “From Abdulmutallab’s children”. I asked: “From which children of him?” he said: “From Fatimah’s.”

But there are some people who have complicated this subject in different ways; whether forging the narrations to deny the Mahdism doctrines or introducing him from the generation of Abbas, Prophet’s uncle, or considering him as a child of one man named Abdullah, or introducing him from the generation of Imam Hassan (PBUH)…

Prophet’s last words to Lady Fatimah…

Abu Saeed Khudri says: “When the messenger of Allah saw his daughter, Fatima, was uneasy in the last moments of his life, said: “… O Fatima! Six traits are given to no one but us, Ahl Al-Bayt:

Our prophet is the best of prophets and he is your father. Our successor is the best of successors and he is your husband. Our martyr is the best of martyrs and he is your father’s uncle, Hamza. Two grandchildren of this ummah (nation) are from us and these two are your sons. “Mahdi” –who Jesus will pray behind him- is from us.” Then he tapped on Hussain’s shoulders and said: “Mahdi, is from him.” The ninth descendant of Hussain…

Imam Jawad’s (PBUH) intense crying

Saqar ibn abi Dulaf says: “I asked Imam Jawad: “Who is the Imam after Imam Hassan (Askari)?” He began crying intensely and then said: “After Hassan, his son, Qa’im (a person who rises), is truly the awaited Imam.” I said: “Why is he called Qa’im?” He said: “Because after he is forgotten and most of people who belive in his Imamate become apostate, he rises…”

Kamal Al-Din, Ch. 37, Hadith 3

Imam Jawad (PBUH) said to Abdul Azim Hassani: “Our Qa’im is that promised Mahdi whose awaiting is obligatory during his occultation and his obedience is obligatory during his Reappearance. He is the third son of my descendants…”

(Kamal Al-Din, Ch. 36, Hadith 1)

Clarification of Imam Askari (PBUH) about the birth of his son

[These two nerrations are authentic by “evidence”]

Abu Hashim Jafari narrated, that he said to Imam Askari (PBUH): “The splendor personality of yours stops me to enquire anything from you, if you allow me, I want to ask a question?” Imam Askari (PBUH) said: “Ask”. I said: “My lord! Do you have a child?” He replied: “Yes” then I asked again: “If something happens to you where should I go to meet him?” Imam said: “To Medina”

Ibn Bilal (he is one of the great and trustworthy personalities) said: “Two years before the death of Imam Askari (PBUH), he wrote a letter for me and informed me about the successor after him. The second time three days before his martyrdom, he again sent me a messege and reminded me about his successor.”

Very interesting salutations…

Fazl bin Ruzbahan (of the Sunni scholars) in his book “Ibtal al-Batil” writes some sentences about Ahl al-Bayt and writes at the end:

“How well I wrote a poem about them: Salutation to the chosen Mustafa (PBUH), Salutation to the master Mortaza (PBUH), Salutation to our Lady Fatimah (S.A), whom Allah has made the greatest of women, Salutation of the breeze of the musk to Hassan (PBUH) … Salutation to Hussain (PBUH) who is the most pious martyr … Salutation to master of worshipers … Salutation to the guided Baqir (PBUH), Salutation to the leader Sadiq (PBUH), Salutation to the examined Kadhim (PBUH) and the role model of piety, Salutation to the eighth Ali ibn Mousa al-Reza (PBUH)… Salutation to the pious Jawad (PBUH) … Salutation to the guide of people Hadi (PBUH) … Salutation to Hassan Askari (PBUH) who has gathered and mobilized the army of truth and serenity…”

“Salutation to the “awaited Qa’im” Abu al-Qasim, the thunder and the light of guidance, who will save (the world) like the sun that glows in the darkness, the man whose sword is chosen, the mighty and potent who will fill the world with justice … Salutation to him and his fathers and his devotees till the sky is raised.”

Having an ideal father…

It is written about the characteristics of Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH): “He had moderate brown complexion, big black eyes, a beautiful face, an average height and an appropriate figure. Although he was young but the Quraysh grandee and scholars were very impressed by him. His friends and enemies both endorsed him for his knowledge, endurance, kindness, piety, and other moral habits.

He could live only 28 years, however he had a lot of students. Only Sheikh al-Tusi has mentioned his student’s number more than 100! There were pious and prominent personalities among his students; are: Ahmad ibn Ishaq, Abu Hashim, Uthman ibn Saeed, Ali bin Ja’far, Muhammad ibn Hassan Saffar and...

Al-Rijal by al-Tusi , p. 427)

Two important and dangerous responsibilities!

After transferring Imam Hadi (PBUH) from Medina to Samerra, he was under supervision and control severely! Because of the unfavorable conditions and numerous restrictions, some of Shias weren’t even aware of “Imam Hassan Askari’s (PBUH)” Imamate at the time of Imam Hadi’s (PBUH) martyrdom!

Even at the time of the savior’s birth, the strict security situations made Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH) take care of his son’s life seriously and keep him hidden from sight to be safe.

On the other hand, Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH) had to introduce Imam Mahdi (PBUH) to some people so they would know the person who was going to be his successor and inform people of his son’s birth…

Why does Imam Mahdi’s mother have different names?

In the family of Imam Askari (PBUH), that respected lady was called by different names such as «Narjes», «Susan», «Hadithe», «Hakimeh», «Malikeh» And «Reihaneh».

In one of researchers’ point of view, that lady has various names due to the following reasons:

1- The great affection of her master toward her led others to call her by the best and the most beautiful names, in which all of her names are the names of flowers and blossoms.

2- With regard to the severe pressure from the government, the possibility of captivity and imprisonment, she had to plan to protect herself and her child to confuse the tyrants. Accordingly, she chose a new name every day and the family members called her by the new name.

M like Mother

Although we do not have clear and descriptive information about the Imam Mahdi’s (PBUH) mother, but by the famous narrations it is said that she was a bondwoman who got captive in a war and finally she reached to the Holy family of Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH).

For example, in a narration it is said that she was the princess of Rome and by miracle she got connection with Imam Hassan Askari’s (PBUH) home. Sheikh al-Saduq in a very long narration has described the whole story that is worth reading.

If you are interested in this story you can find it in an old book named Kamal al-Din and Tamam al-Nimeh v.2, ch.41.

The account of Imam Mahdi’s (PBUH) mother…

There is no indications about the account of Imam Mahdi’s (PBUH) mother after his birth in valid references. But it is narrated that:

“When Ja’afar Kazzab (liar) pillaged the house of Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH), Abu Ali says: “One of his bondmaids fled from Ja’afar and took refuge in my home. She was present when Sayyed (Imam Mahdi (PBUH)) was born and his mother’s name was Saqil.” (Saqil is one of Imam Mahdi’s (PBUH) mother’s names.)”

Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH) informed Saqil about what will happen to his family. She asked Imam to pray to Allah that may her death be before that. She died when Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH) was alive. And there is a tablet on her grave on which is written: “This is the grave of mother of Muhammad.”
