Omission of luxuries and luxurism

A person came to Muawiyah and a tablecloth was spread before him that foods with any color were on it and he didn’t recognize one of them. He asked Muawiyah what was that food and he answered: “The stomach of duck filled with sheep’s brain, fried in pistachio oil and sprinkled with sugar.”

That person came to tears and said: “I recalled that I was with Ali (PBUH) at the time of Iftar (the time for breaking fast) and a sealed bag was brought for him. I asked: “What is in it and why is it sealed?” He said: “It is barley flour. I’m afraid Hassan or Hussain mix it with oil.”” *1

It is said in Seerah (the life history, behavior and habits) of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) in narrations that: “His cloths are not but rough (like battle outfit) and his food is not but coarse (barley bread).” *2

Note and elimination of misunderstanding: The concept of what was said about the Seerah of Ahl al-Bayt is not to avoid enjoying divine favours and the beauties of the world at all. But it is to avoid greed and pride to properties and luxurism and desire for the world.

The safety, after the Reappearance

While before Imam Mahdi’s Reappearance unsafety is prevalent all over the world, one of his most fundamental undertakings is restoring safety to the society. By subtle programming at that time, safety is shortly restored to the society in all fields, the kind of safety that humankind has never experienced before. Safety has different aspects that we mention three of them herein:

1- The road safety: So that young females can travel from places to places without a Mahram accompanying with them and they are safe.

2- The judicial safety: So that people are not afraid that there is a possibility of trampling their rights.

3- The financial safety: It is so widespread that if someone puts his hand in other’s pocket, it wouldn’t be considered theft.

There are narrations (Hadithes) for all the above cases, but for the sake of brevity, we are equally satisfied by what mentioned before.

To employ young people

Most of Imam Mahdi’s (PBUH) associates after the Reappearance and in his Merciful Government are young people and how good is that Islamic authorities employ young people more often imitating Imam Mahdi (PBUH).

Imam Ali (PBUH) said: “The companions of Mahdi are all young and there are not old among them except a small number equivalent to the kohl in an eye or the salt in food.”

It may be for two reasons:

1- Because of the necessity of energetic and powerful people at the time of the Reappearance.

2- Young people are more needed during that era to control society using their intellect, resourcefulness and knowledge.


Sovereignty and dominance over the Earth

Imam Sadiq (PBUH) said: “When affairs are entrusted to Imam Mahdi (PBUH), Allah raise the lowest part of the world for him and lower the highest places till he will see the whole world as if it is in the “palm” of his hand. If one of you had a hair on the palm of his hand, would it be possible not to be able to see it? The whole world will be like this for him.”

It is clearly stated in this Hadith that the world will be dominated by Imam Mahdi (PBUH) like the back of his hand and no point of the Earth is hidden from his sight.


Scientific and technological progress

Imam Sadiq (PBUH) says: “There are 27 letters for science and knowledge. The all knowledge that has been revealed till date through all the Prophets is only “two” of those letters. When our Qa’im (PBUH) rises, then Allah will reveal the remaining “25” letters of knowledge and will add to the existing two letters so all “27” letters become complete.” *1

Imam Mahdi (PBUH) like imam Ali (PBUH) says: “Ask me any question you have before I leave you because I am entirely science and knowledge.” *2

This progress is in all fields of human science, industry, economy, culture, military, agriculture and… .


Peace and tranquility among animals

Imam Ali (PBUH) says: “The wolf and the sheep will live together at the same place and children will play with snakes and scorpions and they will cause no harm to them and the harm will fade away and the good will remain.”

Ibn Abbas says: “In that age the wolf will not lacerate the sheep, the lion will not eat the cow, and the snake will not harm humans.”

Imam Ali (PBUH) says in another narration that: “If our Qa’im rises up (against tyranny), spite and hostility will be removed from the hearts of people and there will be peace among predatory and non-predatory animals.”

The “original” Torah and Bible in the reappearance era

Imam Baqir (PBUH) said: “Imam Mahdi (PBUH) was named as Mahdi because he guides people to a hidden affair and brings out the Torah and the other divine books from a cave in “Antioch” and judges among the people of the Torah with the Torah, and among the people of the Bible with the Bible, and among the people of the Psalms with the Psalms and among the people of the Quran with the Quran.” (Al-Ghayba al-Nu’mani, ch. 13, Hadith 26)

“Imam Mahdi (PBUH) wants to put an end to the influence of the Jews and Christians and other monotheistic and non-monotheistic religions and cults forever and he wants only his flag [that is the flag of peace and justice] to be hoisted because he brings out the Ark of the covenant from the cave of Antioch which contains the original version of the Torah and the Bible.” (Nuzoole Masih wa Zuhoore Moud (The descension of Messiah and the reappearance of the promised one), p. 396)


The killing of Satan

Imam Sadiq (PBUH) was asked: “The fact that God told Satan: “Wait for the known time”, when will this “known time” be?”

Imam Sadiq (PBUH) answered: “That is the day when our Qa’im rises. He is in the Great Mosque of Kufa when God makes him reappear and he’s ready to rise. Then, Satan comes there walking on his knees and says: “O! What a danger lies todays.” Imam Mahdi (PBUH) will drag his forehead and will decapitate him. Then is “the day of the known time” that his time would be up.”

Explanation: Satan is an actual being (jinn) and will be killed, but the inciting soul (inner enemy) will still exists which also, following the evolution of wisdom – that will happen after the Reappearance of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) by him – will be modified and according to a Hadith narrated from Imam Sadiq (PBUH), no more sin will be committed on the Earth (Usul al-Kafi).


The duration of Imam Mahdi’s (PBUH) government

The duration of Imam Mahdi’s governance is not clear. What is certain is that his governance should be long enough so all the oppression is wiped out from the world and the justice is fulfilled all around the world. Undoubtedly, this issue is time consuming and it is logical that he has a long life to accomplish versatile changes.

The quotes and Hadiths regarding the duration of his governance is diverse.

 Years have been mentioned in the sunni references.(1) And 19,20 and 309 years in the shia refrences.(2)40  and 5, 20, 30

Imam Baqir (PBUH): “Imam Mahdi (PBUH) will rules on the Earth 309 years equal to the number of years the folks of the cave remained in the cave.”(3)

Imam Sadiq (PBUH): “Seven years will pass in this manner, but the days and nights will be elongated and each year will be equal to ten years of your reckoning, so the duration of his governance will be equal to 70 years of your reckoning.”(4)

““The last government””

Interpretations that have been stated in narrations about the government of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) are as so: 1. The international government: The government’s territory. 2. The government of justice: Propagating justice. 3. The merciful government: The government is based on human’s dignity. 4. The government of the righteous: The righteousness of governors. 5. The government of Truth: The government is based on the Truth and propagation of the Truth and removal of the Falsehood. 6. The government of the oppressed: The governance of those who have been weakened by the wealthy tyrants. 7. The government of safety: Widespread safety. 8. The government of welfare: Extensive welfare throughout the world.

But “the last government” is an interpretation that has attracted less attention. Imam Baqir (PBUH) says: “Our government is “the last government”.” *1 Allah has said in the Quran: “the end is (best) for the righteous.” *2

Now there are 2 questions: What does it mean to be the last government? Why is it that he is the last government? Answer: It means that it’s the last and the most advanced ideology of governorship and it also means that after that no other government will rule until the end of the history.

Imam Baqir (PBUH) says in a nice hadith as so: “Our government is “the last government” and before that all thought and power holders have ruled.” And he expresses the reason: “… So when they saw our government they don’t say: If we had ruled, we would have ruled this way.” *3
